Civil Rights today

When I learned about the Civil Rights Movement in school, I told myself I would have been one of those lunch counter sit in folks. I told myself I would be on the right side of history if anything like that happened again.

It is happening again. The photos of lynchings and footage of marches have been exchanged for cell phone videos of police killings and hashtags. We are all being called to be on the right side of history.

I encourage you, my Facebook friends who care about equality and justice, to watch 13TH on Netflix. It is a powerful look at how we got here, from the abolition of slavery to our era of mass incarceration.

After you watch it, let me know. I cried three times during, and I’d like to talk about the documentary with you.

It is happening again. It is happening still.
